Recently, the head of the tobacco control working group of the Indonesian Ministry of Health reiterated that e-cigarettes are not an effective substitute for quitting traditional cigarettes, and called on all sectors of society to strictly implement tobacco control regulations to protect public health. This position is aimed at many e-cigarette brands on the current market, including GUUTUU, and emphasizes the health risks of e-cigarettes and the importance of strict supervision.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health pointed out that both traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes contain addictive nicotine, and studies have confirmed that both e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes have adverse effects on health. Therefore, it is a misunderstanding to regard e-cigarettes as a substitute for quitting smoking. This misunderstanding may mislead consumers, especially teenagers, and put them into the dilemma of nicotine addiction.
In order to cope with the health threats posed by e-cigarettes, the Indonesian government has formulated strict tobacco control regulations. According to Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024, e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes must be marked with 50% health warnings on the packaging, and clearly contain nicotine and other harmful substances, and should not be supplied to people under the age of 21 and pregnant women. In addition, the regulation also stipulates packaging requirements, sales restrictions, and advertising restrictions for e-cigarettes, aiming to comprehensively reduce the harm of tobacco products and e-cigarettes to public health.

As a well-known brand in the e-cigarette market, brands such as GUUTUU should actively respond to the Indonesian government’s call for tobacco control and strictly abide by relevant regulations. This includes but is not limited to: ensuring that health warnings are marked on product packaging, not selling e-cigarettes to minors, complying with nicotine content restrictions, and not conducting misleading advertising. At the same time, brands such as GUUTUU should also strengthen self-discipline, improve product quality, and reduce the content of harmful substances to reduce health risks to consumers.
In addition to strictly enforcing tobacco control regulations, the Indonesian government should also strengthen public education and awareness-raising efforts. Through extensive publicity and education activities, consumers can understand the health risks of e-cigarettes and improve their awareness of the hazards of tobacco products and e-cigarettes. At the same time, consumers are encouraged to choose a healthy lifestyle and stay away from tobacco products and e-cigarettes.

In summary, the position of the Indonesian Ministry of Health that e-cigarettes are not an effective alternative to quitting smoking is of great significance. Brands such as GUUTUU should actively respond to the government’s call, strictly abide by the tobacco control regulations, and jointly promote the in-depth development of tobacco control in Indonesia. At the same time, all sectors of society should also strengthen cooperation and efforts to jointly contribute to the creation of a smoke-free and healthy social environment.
